About Diana Hrabosky
I'm a self-taught artist who is most grateful to those gifted individuals who elected to share their knowledge and talents by writing books on colored pencil, acrylic, and abstract technique and related subjects. I was inspired by an artist whose name I wish I knew. I was drawn to her work at an art show in Chantilly, VA but couldn't identify the medium. When I learned it was colored pencil I wanted to try it myself. I don't have an art background, nor did I doodle or draw much as a child. I went through a lot of coloring books though!
The wonderful translucent quality of artist-grade pencils allows for the layering of color, producing some lovely effects. For me, creating each piece is mesmerizing, and I get totally pulled into the process. As you can imagine, a tiny pencil point makes production very labor-intensive. There is so much to learn in the colored pencil world alone, that I will be very content experimenting with pencils for quite some time.
The challenge of reproducing realistic images fascinates me and I will continue to develop my skills in that style. However, I've found that I'm drawn to certain types of abstract work and have recently added acrylic canvas painting to my repertoire. I hope you like the abstracts that I've created so far.
I always look forward to each new piece and enjoy selecting varied subjects. I suspect I'll continue to be eclectic in my choices which should bring me delight with every pencil or paint stroke. I'm excited about my foray into the art world and hope you will stay with me as my journey progresses.
